NY Times Review, Winter Jazz Fest

We’re happy for the love in the NY Times this month:

“But can we talk about bassists? At Sullivan Hall on Saturday, Dezron Douglas led his hard-swinging New Jazz Workshop, a band that came together about 10 years ago under the teaching of Jackie McLean at the University of Hartford and ought to be heard more in this town. It has multiple composers, including the trumpeter Josh Evans and the pianist David Bryant, and it takes the roots of hard bop — one song, Mr. Douglas explained, was inspired by Louis Hayes’s cymbal beat, heard on Cannonball Adderley records 50 years ago — but pushes them toward charismatic abstraction.”
