DETROIT and Fall’s Horizon

DETROIT?
What can I say? I always enjoy performing at the Detroit Jazz Festival. It has to be, in my humble opinion, the best Jazz fest in the United States. It’s always a blessing to share the bandstand with great musicians as well. This year proved to be an EPIC occasion to say the least. On Saturday I performed with JD ALLEN’s Trio with Johnathan Barber on drums. JD is a rising tenor star with heavy influences from Sonny Rollins, Butch Morris, and John Coltrane. It was his Detroit homecoming and he sure showed out in grand fashion. Later that evening I performed with David Berger’s Orchestra backing the young sensational songstress Cecile McLorin Salvant. The music was top notch and the woman can SANG ya’ll, she really has something special. On Sunday I performed with Ravi Coltrane, whom Ive been working with in his new quartet for over a year now. Let’s just say we dropped some LOVE on the fair city of DETROIT.

This Fall promises to be EPIC with some firsts for me and some continuations of projects I have been involved in throughout the years as well as a few albums dropping with yours truly holding down the bass chair. Some highlights; Louis Hayes ( 2 live recordings and a Tour), my first Vanguard run with RAVI, a mini tour of Japan, short trip to China, and my debut with the great MONTY ALEXANDER. Get your ears cleaned and ready to hear and feel some good vibes radiating from the Bottom. Gosh do I love BOTTOM.
